Dixon is a city in northern Solano County, California, United States, located 23 miles from the state capital, Sacramento. The population was 21, 138 at the 2020 census. It is the 295th largest city in California. Other nearby cities include Vacaville, Winters and Davis.

The first settlement in the Dixon area was founded in 1852 by Elijah S. Silvey, whose search for gold landed him in these parts during the California gold rush. … This half-way house was located along a well-traveled stage coach route to the gold fields of Sacramento, which became famous among area miners.

Dixon’s agricultural heritage derives from its location in the Dixon Ridge farming area, which has some of Solano County’s most fertile soil that allows farmers to grow everything from tomatoes to alfalfa, ranchers to run cattle and sheep, and orchardists to grow almonds and walnuts.
